Massed pipes and drums

This evening there was a massed pipes and drums display from Canada in the town centre. I took some photos of them marching down to the Wellmeadow, as there are not so many people in the way!! I walked down to the Wellmeadow and was delighted to see such a large turnout of spectators.

Fingask & White Loch

I continued on my walk cutting through the Bluebell wood and followed the path around Fingask Loch, where there were several fishermen out in their boats, and alongside White Loch with lots of interesting waterfowl, especially the moorhen and chicks. The path comes out onto the Perth Road and so back home.

Ancient Stone Circle

About a 10 minute walk away along the B947 Essendy Road there is a stone circle, which unfortunately has the road running right through them!! I have driven past many times, but today I decided to walk along and take some pictures. What I could find out was that the road was put through them in 1858 and probably two of the stones have been moved into a more vertical position, I suppose it was easier to build a straight road than go around!!

A Fungi Foray

Chantrelle

Tawny Grisette (I think, but I'm not risking it!!)

Above are some photos of different fungi I found whilst out on a woodland walk today. Please don't pick and eat fungi unless you are 100% sure it is not poisonous. The chantrelle is prolific at the moment. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will remember all my posts about them last year.

Sweet Peas

It has been a day of sunshine and showers. I spent a bit of time in the garden today so took a picture of the gorgeous perennial sweet peas that are rambling around everywhere in the back garden. My hydrangea that used to bloom profusely right by the front door has sadly died, but it was pretty ancient, never mind good excuse to get another one!!
I had a lovely mention on another blog click here to read it. The whole blog is brilliant and worth a read and the photos are amazing.

A Postcard from St. Andrews

A group of guests that stayed with me last week sent me a lovely postcard from St. Andrews, which was a lovely surprise and a very kind gesture. With the aid of a rubber on Microsoft Paint I have omitted their names for confidentiality reasons, but have the original postcard hanging proudly on my noticeboard in the hallway.

Roman Fortress

I know it just looks like a field, but this is where the Roman Fortress was, beside the garden at Spittalfield which I visited today (see blog below). In the bottom picture, unfortunately a bit dark, you might see a man with his 'Time Team' equipment. Click here and it will take you to a great website with all the info and pictures you need if it interests you. A lady who I follow on Twitter told me to look at Canmap which you can access from the link, fascinating stuff. I have now found out about the Fir Hillock in the field behind us, which I mentioned in my blog of 1st February 2009, so will give you the information another time.

Another Open Garden Visit

Went along to a garden open under Scotland's Garden Scheme 10 minutes away across at Spittalfield. What an amazing garden, it is not formal, but there are trees and ponds and flowers and views galore. It is huge with meandering grassy footpaths everywhere, little bridges across the ponds, quite magical. The garden is by a place called Inchtuthil (the island that floats) an old Roman Legionary fortress. I didn't see any signs of it, but by chance near where the car was parked I saw a man doing a Geophysical survey and moving flags around in a big field, so I went to investigate and found out from a lady that this is where the fort was, the field is huge. So I have been checking it all out on the Internet. Will follow this blog up with pictures from the field and a link.

The Scottish Game Fair

Today, tomorrow and on Sunday 'The Scottish Game Fair' is being held in the grounds of Scone Palace. The weather held up today and I had an enjoyable time wandering around, there is something for everyone. Lots of displays, a food hall, crafts and line upon line of exhibitors, the list is endless. Above are a few random photos which really are not very good!! If you go on Twitter and follow Tour Scotland, he has some fantastic photos. I didn't bump into my guests who attend every year, but they as always had a great day.
